Eugy & Mr Eazi - Dance for me
Eugy and Mr
Eazi are also afrobeats singers there major hit single "Dance for me"
has been a major hit in opening up the afrobeats music scene. This video was
released on 2nd September 2016 and the song was written by Mr Eazi
himself. Produced by Team Salut.
Synopsis of the video &
conceptual, narrative or performance based
In the video
"Dance for me" by Eugy & Mr Eazi, I found this to be mainly
performance based and the artist, the actually meaning of this video is Eugy
& Mr Eazi is telling presumably a female to dance for them by stating some
of the most famous dance moves.
Themes& Motifs
In this
afrobeat video "Dance for me" by Eugy & Mr Eazi the theme that
can be identified is love through the art of dancing this is demonstrated when
he says "baby dance it for me". Also when both artists have solo’s
they are both singing to one female. Yet again this has the concept of dancing
to let loose and be free, which is a conventional theme of the afrobeats music
genre.
Editing: The video begins with some special
effects with a silhouette of Eugy then one of Mr Eazi before getting into the
song. This video consists of fast cutting rates back and forth from the main
artists to the dancers.
Camera: There are also many establishing
shots, one of which shows both artists in the grand open space with the
dancers, dancing on the side this is done to depict a free environment with no
restrictions as that is what dancing is and where it’s usually done. There are
also many low angled shots of the artists and long shots.
Mise-en-scene: Almost everyone person in this video
including the artists has or is of African American ethnicity which is the
majority of people in the afrobeats music genre. There is very bright lighting
in the video this is to make sure that the dancers and artists are clearly seen.
Some of the dancers are wearing dashiki’s which are typical forms of African
attire.
Target Audience: This is aimed at mainly people who
enjoy afrobeats and dancing and just feeling free to express themselves and be
whomever they choose to be. This is targeted to predominately young people at
they are mainly the ones you notice throughout the video.
Ideas I could use in my own video?
- · Make sure there is bright lighting
- · Do video in a vast, wide open space
- · Possibly have some of the dancers in typical African attire
Well written although you don't analyse the technical elements such as camera and editing, in as much depth as the first case study. Vanessa
